Furniture from Home of Teak makes leisure time perfect - it remains your haven of peace outside in the open air, in your garden, on the balcony or veranda. Beautiful and reliable from season to season, from decade to decade, as time changes.

The materials used by Home of Teak can withstand any weather.

All furniture is designed for long-term outdoor use. They can survive spring, summer, autumn and winter outdoors without damage. Many even develop a characteristic patina and thus become more beautiful over time. You don't have to put in a lot of effort to ensure that your furniture doesn't lose any of its beauty despite the effects of the weather, UV rays and environmental deposits. Simple care measures twice a year are sufficient.

Below we have summarized the most important properties, care instructions and tips for each material of our furniture.

Everything you need to know about caring for our products

General care instructions

material properties of teak

Home of Teak only uses high-quality teak from Indonesian plantations.

Teak is one of the most resilient and valuable timbers in the world. It easily withstands moisture, sun, frost and temperature fluctuations.

It is therefore particularly suitable for continuous outdoor use - without any additional surface protection.

Our teak furniture is delivered in its natural state, as the majority of buyers want to place the furniture outside without any paint. Over time, the wood develops a beautiful silver-grey patina due to the effects of the weather.

Teak is a natural product and therefore always has a different grain. The wood must be pre-dried before it can be processed, and it sometimes turns a reddish color. However, the UV rays in sunlight make these discolorations disappear again in a few weeks. Hairline cracks can form on the surface, especially on the front of the wood. This is also a natural phenomenon that does not affect the stability and durability of the furniture in any way.

Care of teak wood

It is best to clean teak furniture twice a year with a brush and green soap, preferably with warm (but not hot) water. This prevents dirt from settling deep in the pores of the wood. Green soap is available as a commercially available liquid or neutral soap in any drugstore.

You can also use a high-pressure cleaner to clean our teak furniture - with the exception of the garden chests. Since the professional cleaning of teak furniture with a high-pressure cleaner requires a lot of experience, we advise against it! If you still want to use a high-pressure cleaner, please observe the following rules: Set the device to a maximum pressure of approx. 60 bar. Make sure that there is a minimum distance of 30cm between the nozzle and the wood. Only a triple nozzle guarantees the necessary gentle pressure jet. The rule of thumb here is: If the area treated with the high-pressure cleaner is completely brown again (i.e. the patina has been removed), the pressure was already too high! There is an immediate risk that if the pressure is too high, damage to the furniture will occur, such as edges tearing, glued joints coming loose, and the surface becoming extremely rough. Never use the dirt blaster nozzle! The surface of the wood will be roughened too much if the dirt blaster nozzle is used - often even directly damaged.

If the furniture is cleaned thoroughly and completely, the piece of furniture will usually become brighter.

care of textiles

All pads have a core made of fleece-covered foam. If necessary, you can order the filling separately from us.

All of our cushion covers are removable and made of high-quality Nagata drill. They can be carefully hand washed at 30°C using a mild detergent. Please do not dry clean. The covers can also be reordered individually.

To protect against dirt and moisture, we recommend our Fabric Protector and for occasional cleaning and to remove individual stains, we recommend our Fabric Cleaner .

care of fittings

brass fittings
material properties

Wherever brass is used in our furniture, we only use fittings made of high-quality marine-grade brass.

Care

When cleaning the furniture, simply clean brass fittings with the green soap. Commercial polishing paste helps to maintain the shine of the fittings.

stainless steel fittings
material properties

All stainless steel fittings used by Home of Teak are made of stainless steel quality 304 (also known under the outdated designation "V2A") or, upon request and for an additional charge, also in quality 316.

Care

You can also simply clean the stainless steel fittings with the green soap when cleaning the furniture. For additional care measures, we recommend our special stainless steel care products.

Help against stains

water stains

EXPLANATION

These are part of the “normal” color change of untreated wood. The water washes out the colorants from the inside of the wood (Important! Such “drops of colorants” can leave dark spots on the terrace, especially on light-colored surfaces).

HOW DO YOU HELP?

Cleaning with green soap and root brush:

With each cleaning, the stains become a little smaller and disappear after about three to four years.

Cleaning with the high-pressure cleaner:

Washes out the stains superficially. After a while, however, they reappear in a weaker form and gradually disappear due to the greying effect.

Dark & black spots

EXPLANATION

If the furniture is constantly damp, mold stains may form on the surface.

This is due to dirt deposits from the atmosphere or chemical reactions with components from the air.

HOW DO YOU HELP?

Cleaning with a high-pressure cleaner:
If the stains have not been on for too long, they will disappear when cleaned with a high-pressure cleaner. Only treat the stain and not the entire piece of furniture and keep a minimum distance of 30 cm!

Sanding:
Sanding with fine sandpaper also removes stains that have penetrated deeper into the wood grain.

infestation with algae & mold

EXPLANATION

Algae and mold are simple organisms that can settle on all organic materials if there is sufficient moisture. Even dust deposits on inorganic building materials or the extremely resilient teak wood can serve as a basis for life.

This is encouraged by longer periods of moisture, which are becoming increasingly common in the European autumn and winter (when there is no frost). This results in wood moisture levels above 20%, particularly in furniture that is kept outdoors (the usual wood moisture level in buildings is 8-15%), which encourages fungal infestation, especially if the furniture receives little direct sunlight during the winter months.

HOW DO YOU HELP?

We recommend the following products from our range: Teak Cleaner and then Teak Protector (to preserve the brown colour) or Teak Patinizer (to preserve the grey patina)

Application areas:

Prevention and control of algae, moss and mold infestation outdoors on wooden furniture exposed to moisture.

The composition of the agent ensures diffusion into the affected materials.

Application:

  • First brush off any mold or algae growth.
  • Clean furniture thoroughly with Teak Cleaner and allow to dry
  • Then treat with Teak Protector (brown) or Teak Patinizer (grey) depending on the desired colour or scrub the furniture regularly with a brush and lukewarm soapy water.

stains from grease, oil, wine & wax

HOW DO YOU HELP?

Cleaning with spirit or benzine:

Fresh stains that have not yet penetrated deeply into the wood can be removed in this way

Sanding:

Sanding with fine sandpaper also removes stains that have penetrated deeper into the wood grain.
