The “fast” growth of teak trees

In this section you will learn more about the benefits of teak, where it comes from, how we source it sustainably, how we use it responsibly and how the teak tree grows. Select an item to see more information.

teak wood as a material

Teak is the most durable and best wood for outdoor furniture. Its natural properties mean it can withstand sun, rain, frost and snow without any problems. The wood remains stable even after years of outdoor use, maintains its dimensions and only changes its color from a honey-colored light brown to a silvery gray patina. Teak retains its value for decades. You can pass on what you own made of teak to someone else.

origin of teak wood

For Home of Teak, teak is more than just a raw material for furniture construction. It is a value and a resource that must be preserved. That is why we only source teak from plantations. Only in Indonesia are there teak plantations of any significant size and age: on the island of Java, over 1 million hectares of plantations have been established in commercial forests under state management since 1880.

Sustainable Procurement

These plantations are managed by the state-owned company PT. Perum Perhutani and we buy the wood for our furniture from there. Teak trees harvested on Java have reached a height of up to 50 meters at an age of around 60-70 years. Trees of this age have their price.

Responsible handling

Teak of this quality is too valuable to be wasted on short-term cheap offers. It deserves high-quality processing in the producing countries (teak furniture production) and equally high appreciation in the purchasing countries - this is the only way we can continue to rely on this valuable raw material in the future.
